By default, the editable cells in the spreadsheet have a yellow background. Every other area is protected, meaning if you try to edit it, you’ll get a warning. This is to prevent you from accidentally changing parts of the sheet that are not meant to be changed.

However, if you're a spreadsheet pro and want to add your own customizations on top of M1 Spreadsheet, you can disable this warning.

Disabling Protected Ranges

  1. Go to Data > Protect sheets and ranges
  2. In the sidebar that shows up, select ‘Show all protected ranges’
  3. Select the range that you want to change
  4. You can now edit or delete it

<aside> 💡 Note: If you ever mess anything up accidentally, you can always make a new copy of the original spreadsheet, and just copy your values over there.
